Having a healthy-looking, brilliant smile can take years off of your appearance.
Because of wear and tear, the aging process, and lifestyle choices that we make can all take a toll on the color of our teeth. Many Americans have opted to select one of the many options available for teeth whitening.

No matter how many times you bleach your teeth, your crowns will not whiten. If you have crowns and you use a teeth whitening kit, you may find that your natural teeth will get whiter but your crowns are going to stay the same color that they were before you tried this.

Stop Receding Gums

There are two types of stains on your teeth. The first is localized, meaning the stain might cover part of a tooth or a whole tooth. The second type is generalized staining which means that the stains are over parts of several teeth, or all of your teeth for that matter. If you have localized staining you should choose a cleaning system that may be targeted.

Do not start a home teeth whitening treatment without going to the dentist to have an exam done. You do not want to use any of these treatments if you have untreated cavities in your mouth. The same goes for gum disease. These things should be treated prior to any treatment.

If you feel as though your teeth are well beyond using products like whitening toothpastes, whitening strips, and various other at home treatments, you may consider making an appointment with your dental hygienist to discuss more intense teeth whitening methods done at the dentist's office.

Rinse your mouth out with 3% hydrogen peroxide solution every evening after you brush your teeth. 3% hydrogen peroxide solution is a mild bleaching agent so it can help to keep your teeth white, it is also very cheap; you should be able to pick up a bottle in your local pharmacy for less than $2.

One important teeth whitening tip is to try to always brush and floss your teeth even when not at home. This is important to prevent the build up of plaque. Bring a toothbrush and floss with you at work and also when you go out to eat. At the very least, try to wash your mouth out after a meal.

Try to help whiten your smile by using some hydrogen peroxide. Just dip a washcloth into the solution. After it is dampened, start rubbing it against the surfaces of your teeth. The peroxide in the solution will help to lighten any stains and the texture of the cloth helps to scrub them away.

A pretty obvious tip that people may forget about teeth whitening is to make regular visits to your local dentist. Regular visits to your dentist will eliminate the need for frequent teeth whitening, as the dentist will normally clean your teeth to remove any plaque or tartar that has accumulated.

Whether you choose to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home, or as you relax at the dentist's office, you will no doubt be pleased with the results! A tremendous amount of what we look like has to do with our smile, so go treat yourself!
